As a recognized training institution, the Seibersdorf Academy offers practical courses for radiation protection officers that meet the requirements of the General Radiation Protection Ordinance 2020 in scope and content. The courses provide in-depth knowledge of ionizing radiation physics, radiation protection law, and practical protective measures.
In Austria RPO education consists of a basic course plus a specific training according to the intended practices - with radiation generators and sealed sources or with unsealed radioactive sources. Continued training in intervals of five years is mandatory for RPOs. The training courses take place at several locations in Austria. For continuing education courses there are online formats as well. Our courses combine theory with practical exercises and case studies — ideal for specialists from technology, research and industry.

Sometimes items containing radioactive sources or materials are disposed of improperly. Staff at waste and scrap metal collection sites should be prepared to recognize such radioactive sources and how to handle such situations safely. This practice-oriented course provides basics of radiation protection, legal requirements, the correct use of measurement devices, and the safe handling of suspected radioactive materials. In practical exercises participants learn how to minimize risk / optimize radiation protection for staff on-site and the environment.
