This is how we guide you through the testing process

Our Testing Process — transparent, efficient, practical

EMC tests follow a clearly structured process — from preparation to carrying out measurements to evaluating the results. We will support you with our technical expertise and modern testing equipment. In this way, we work together to ensure that the measurements are carried out comprehensibly and that you receive a reliable basis for development, evaluation and compliance.

1. Preliminary Consultation & Clarification of Standards

We will work with you to determine which standards and tests are necessary and check any special requirements (e.g., OEM requirements). We coordinate a possible test date.

2. Test Sample Preparation

Definition of the required test environment for the device, including accessories, monitoring equipment, and any necessary technical documentation. (e.g. EMC test plans). Clarification of the
technical feasibility with regard to power supply, size & weight of the test object.

3. Carrying out the Tests

Tests in accordance with standards-compliant test & measurement procedures in anechoic chambers, shielded RF chambers or on test stations.

4. Evaluation & Recommended Measures

If limit values are exceeded or immunity requirements are not met, we provide clear information on possible causes and steps to solve them.

5. Test Report & Documentation

Documentation of the results in a clearly structured and internationally recognized test report.

EMC testing FAQ

What is EMC and why is it important?

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is the ability of a device to function properly in its electromagnetic environment without causing unacceptable disturbances. Ensuring EMC is important for the reliable function of electronics and for meeting legal requirements (e.g., CE marking).

When is an EMC test required?

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests are required as soon as an electrical or electronic product is launched(e.g. in the EU in accordance with EMC Directive 2014/30/EU). This applies to almost all devices with active electronic components.

How does a typical EMC test work?

The process is typically divided into:

1. Preparation (definition of requirements, standards, test plan, setup & monitoring)

2. Pre-compliance testing

3. Acceptance measurements in the laboratory:

- Interference emission (emission)

- immunity

4. Documentation (test report) & evaluation

What types of EMC tests are there?

The tests usually take place in anechoic chambers or shielded rooms.

The main distinction is made between:

  • Electromagnetic emissions: What electromagnetic emissions does the device emit?
  • Electromagnetic immunity: How resistant is the device to external interference?

Typical tests include conducted emission, radiated emission, ESD (electrostatic discharge), burst, surge, and RF irradiation.

Which standards are relevant for EMC tests?

The applicable standards depend on the type of product.

examples:

  • EN 61000-6-x (generic standards)
  • EN 55032/EN 55035 (multimedia devices)
  • EN 60601-1-2 (medical devices)

The correct selection of standards is crucial for conformity assessment.
