RAD (R/N) Orphan Source Management Training

Course Description

The course orphan source localization & management was designed to offer special training in order to assist in localizing and managing orphan sources. In addition to fundamental theory, the practical training (which is based on scenarios and operational requirements) is a major aim.

Course Aims

Participants will learn about:

  • Basics of radiation physics and dosimetry
  • Radiation exposure scenarios & protection
  • Biological radiation effects
  • Measurement devices and practical use
  • Uses of industrial and medical sources and the way into scrap
  • Practical exercises

The content of the course is a mix of theory and practical work. The basics will be taught in a classroom setting and trained practically, with sealed radioactive sources.

Group Size

The recommended group size is 8 to 24 persons.


Duration

5 working days (30 training units)


Prerequisites

Participants should be:

  • medically and physically fit (Employer to provide a medical clearance for the employee to work in personal protective equipment)
  • medical insurance valid in Europe/ Austria
  • able to understand instructions/training delivered in the German or English Language
  • 18 years of age as a minimum
  • female participants must not be pregnant
